I do…even after all these years
{San Francisco Bay Area Photographer}
I was given with the chance to photograph the annual Anniversary Mass at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption in San Francisco this past weekend. I accepted, of course, not fully grasping the significance of the event with which I was being entrusted. As it turned out, this was not just any mass at the cathedral. It was a monumental and significant renewal of vows for over 100 couples before their Bishop and their families. The couples, some married for over 60 years, recited those words we are all familiar with, the words they had recited at their own weddings so many years earlier. This time, they sat in the pews next to their partner and spoke the words again – renewing the meaning, the promise and the emotion of those words. One couple, half-way through the vows, put away the papers from which they were reading, looked into each others eyes instead, and held hands tightly as they spoke the words to each other. It was moment I was lucky to capture with my camera (see the second image below), and it literally brought me close to tears with emotion. A beautiful moment. Thank you to the organizers of the Anniversary Mass, Chris and Vickie Lyford, for allowing me to be a part of this important day.
